The history of Casio watches begins in 1946 when the brothers Kashio in Tokyo start their business. The company became big with the invention of the Yubiwa pipe, a cigarette ring that allowed smoking without using your hands. In 1949 the brothers switched to electronic calculators, which resulted in the establishment of Casio Computer Co. Ltd in 1957 - the name Kashio became Casio as it was easier for Western people.
In 1974 Casio launched its first watches onto the market. Casio was one of the first companies to start producing quartz movements. One of its best known innovations was the world famous calculator watch, which - in addition to a function in Ordinary Time - also served as a calculator via a mini keyboard built into the design. Casio has grown to become one of the largest producers of watches worldwide.
